This is not a "gym." These are not "workouts."
We see Gate 14 as a space to engage in daily physical practice. Like yoga or martial arts, there is no perfection, only a dedication to growth. We live by Irish playwright Samuel Beckett's famed suggestion to "fail better," and take our inspiration from authors, musicians, philosophers, chefs, artists, photographers, and other iconoclasts. The pursuit is to understand ourselves and the rest of the world better through our movement inside the gym, all while becoming the strongest, fastest, most fit version of ourselves yet.

Each Gate 14 workout will take about an hour to complete. We'll start with a thoughtful warm-up to get the body and brain primed for work. We'll break for protocol briefing and discuss both form and content of the workout ahead.
Workouts tend to consist of body weight movements, dumbbell and barbell strength work, bike, ski, and running cardiovascular work, and other auxiliary tools like sleds, sandbags, box jumps, and jump ropes.
Skills are taught and acquired on an individualized basis. Think of this as 1-on-1 training with the benefit of a community of like-minded individuals pushing themselves right next to you.

No! Our athletes tend to appreciate our longer daily workouts, proprietary system of Gate 14 Benchmarks, and the unique way we integrate art, music, and culture with our protocols. While we share movements with CrossFit, our programming tends to include longer workouts and an ability to tailor workouts to each individual within the group setting. We want to be able to lift heavy just as much as we want to run an ultramarathon. Our approach prepares you for any- and everything the world can throw at you.

Of course! No matter what your fitness level, the individualized attention you will get from your trainers will ensure that you progress at your own pace within an encouraging group setting. We've worked with every level of athlete, from novice to has-been to professional, and pride ourselves on helping people start their fitness journey.

We have a few different kinds of workouts at Gate 14. Some weeks the clock dictates how long we are in each movement (Interval Week). Some weeks we base our workouts on how many repetitions we are trying to complete (Load Week). Some days we set out specifically for skill and movement acquisition (Auxiliary Days).
No matter what we do, though, our workouts are created specifically to help us perform better at our 14 proprietary Gate 14 Benchmarks. Members test 3 of the 14 at the end of each month, and record their progress in our proprietary app. Each Benchmark tests for a different physical or psychological attribute that we think underpins the best athletes, like power, or muscular endurance, or VO2 max, or planning, or grit.
We know our methods work when our G14s continually set personal records each time they repeat a benchmark.
